Title: Non polarized electrolytic capacitors?
Post by: zilla on May 01, 2014, 05:17:02 AM
Was browsing the zero point mini BOM and saw this listed. A check on mouser came up negative.

Can I just use a simple non polar film cap instead?

Mouser also calls them "Bi-polar" just like my ex-girlfriend.

You *might* get away with a film, but if Brian says non polar electro, I'd say use that, he has a reason.

non-polar or film will both work.  Non-polar are cheaper however.

Lol!  Great analogy. ;)

thanks for the replies.

just trying to understand why a non-polar was spec'ed in the circuit rather than a film cap.

I'm sure there is a reason for the two names. Non-polar is more descriptive, IMO.

Couldn't you use a decent ceramic there too, or does the LFO section need a higher ESR? Hmm, must breadboard.

An MLCC will work fine.
