Hey all,
I saw somewhere that sm bear does not carry the proper photocells, this was posted:
-Bad News/Good News first: For the moment, I can't supply for the Univibe the very high-dark resistance photocells that Silonex used to make. The parts that they are currently making in China will work in a trem but not in a phaser. I have marked down my remaining stock, so you can get some very good parts at a price you would not usually see. I will do my best in coming months to secure a re-make of the Univibe-friendly photocells -
So are there any other places I can source those photocells? Not sure I would trust ebay or Tayda for those!
thanks
Honestly, I think Steve posted that to cover his butt. The 7530/32 works great in the Harbinger I built, and I have a hard time imagining an audible switching difference in this design between 10M-20M and 50M or whatever was in the originals, especially when you can change the gain of the lamp. I don't even think that the source followers can drive a load larger than a couple MOhms. You also might ask how it is that they will work in a trem but not a phaser ... typically a tremolo requires more dark resistance than light resistance when they matter.
You're not going to find them elsewhere unless someone has a tested set from before the factory changed (so think getting them from another DIYer, like buying panasonic chips).
I asked over at FSB and sinner pointed me to alliedelec.com

These are kind of pricey but I may try those out as well as what sm bear has.
thanks

That one's way worse than the Smallbear ones. The On resistance is 80K (about 10x as high as Smallbear's 7530s) and the off resistance is only 1M (instead of 7-10M).

I will skip that one then and use smallbears! THANKS!
Don't know where you're located, but if in europe, give this a try:

Working flawlessly in my JMK Vibe, which is essentially the same circuit as a Univibe/Harbinger/'Insert your vibe clone here'

Yep. If you're in Europe the Banzai matched ones work perfectly. Using these in my Harbinger.

I have seen those before, I am in the USA so not sure that would work unless they ship to the states for a good price LOL
thanks
I know. Shipping is always a problem for small orders.
