Title: So, you're building a multi, and you need dirt...
Post by: Willybomb on May 18, 2014, 06:09:30 AM
Gudday all, I'm building a multi currently, populated with delay (sea urchin), chorus (pork barrel), and OD (egghead), but I'm looking for a simple distortion to fill in the "gap".  I'm thinking a Halo Rustdriver, maybe?  It's doesn't need to be complex - indeed, the simpler the better, but I want something a bit more full on than the Egghead.

I'm half tempted to just put a Sprout in there, but it's probably a bit too one dimensional.

The one knob fuzz sounds great mate, just depends what sort of sound you're after. I've got a real hao rustdriver that i couldn't bond with. My go to distortion is a crunchbox, options are endless  ;D

Yeah, I've built a number of Sprouts now.  I used generic PN100 for the trannies first time round, and it was okish, but it's actually pretty nice with a bc548 and bc549 in there.

The plan is to have the box standalone, but I also want to put an insert in after the dirt so I can put my other pedals in before the chorus.

I've heard good things about the crunchbox...

I think the DAM Sonic Titan is underrated, has some thick distorted tones and not too complex of a build. http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/01/dam-sonic-titan.html

But, lots of good options in the distortion territory.  I really love my Reezafratzitz, a bit more complex build  http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/10/emma-reezafratzitz-rf1.html

Crunch Box is another popular one.  People seem to love the Suhr Riot, but I didn't really like mine.

A Rat or Dist+ would be a good, simple build to include.

A good option here. The Dist+ could even push the egghead for some great sounds.
