Title: Good place to buy cable
Post by: HailToTheBlues on May 26, 2014, 11:26:34 AM
Hi guys,
i'm looking for a good place to buy bulk cable and connectors. I was checking musikding, and they have nice prices, like the sommer cable, and the amphenol plugs, but i wanted to know if any of you knows a better option? I would prefer it would be on EU due to the postage.

Kind regards

Thomann: sommer-cable cable and hicon connectors.

I had already seen thomman sommer-cable, and they seem more expensive than the models musikding sells like the spirit xxl. The hicon connectors are more expensive too  :-\

The good thing about Thomann, at least for me (as I live in Spain), is the free shipping. I use to make orders with friends so we get over the 200€ barrier.

Well yeah, in that case it is worth it, but i don't know anyone who needs anything from thomman. People here are not fans of DIY, they prefer to give 100 euros for a monster cable, than to learn to solder and make your own for 10 euros.....

I use RedCo (http://www.redco.com/) for bulk cable and connectors.  Pretty decent prices IMHO.

they do have some nice prices, i'm checking the mogami w2524, have you ever had any experience with it? or do you think there's better options?
And for the connectors? which are your favourite?
Also, i forgot what is the difference between ts connectors and trs connectors, could someone explain it to me? i think it's because of balance and unbalanced cables, but i'm not sure...

I get mine here:
https://www.tubedepot.com/products/mogami-w2524-instrument-cable
(https://www.tubedepot.com/products/mogami-w2524-instrument-cable)
With these plugs:
https://www.tubedepot.com/products/amphenol-tm2pnj-1-4-straight-audio-plug (https://www.tubedepot.com/products/amphenol-tm2pnj-1-4-straight-audio-plug)
Sometimes they have sales that'll save you 25% or so. Buy a new set of tubes for your amp too for $99 free shipping.

their prices are not bad too, but as far as i can see, redco has better prices, at least for the connectors, and their shipping is a little cheaper too. Thanks for the reply  :)

Another shout out for Redco.  Their prices are good and they ship rather quickly.  I dunno about International shipping however they are great.  Anytime I have had an issue, they straighten it out quickly and respond to emails and calls right away.

Thanks for all the replies! Wanted to know if any of you had had any experience with the sommer cable, especially "the spirit" and "the spirit xxl", does anyone have and opinion about them?

yeah, i think i'm going for the spirit xxl, many people say that it is good (like you for example), and i really look of it, with the transparent carbon layer that lets you see the braid :)

Yep, Spirit XXL rules. It is flexible & strong but doesn't deform easily.
