Not sure I would invest in one but it sure would be fun to play with for a while
How long before the DIY version? ;D
I am all over that. Cheaper than buying a Roland synth unit, and it covers most of what I would want it for.
Impressive. Bet it's all digital.

It'd be ridiculous if it wasn't :o
I wonder if this is designed by David Cockerel again and still using the black fin chip, the Pog etc were.
All over it though, need doesn't even cover it, must have.
A mate can cop those sounds with his HOG, so my guess is that it uses the same engine.
I'd like to hear Yngwie play through the Cathedral setting :D maybe bring Jens Johansson into it, Duelling Keyboards.
Yeah I actually like their separation of the HOG in to these modules... I guess the cello/violin next, which i'll also probably want haha.
love those sounds and song choices! It's pretty much like the HOG but all organ sounds
sounds like fun. i will think about it
God that thing sounds good!
I'd love this thing! I can't tell, but does it have a speed up/down for a leslie as a jack or something?
Jacob
I love it, too. It looks like maybe $220-230 from what I saw. I would buy this...although I wouldn't mind the Hog for twice the price!
Brilliant idea, nice sounds.
Notice there was no string bending? Wonder how it would track that?
Needs a Leslie fast/slow switch as well to be really a killer unit........
This may end up on my Sweetwater card. lol
Cody
I dig it too... I anticipate it will be a pretty good success for them.
i have to agree it sounds pretty wicked.

Sure, just wanted to calm down expectations for a soon DIY version...
I had to check the video wasn't posted on april 1st, what a great effect
Looks cool.
Anyone who is into guitar synth type tones owes it to themselves to check this out:
http://jamorigin.com/products/midi-guitar/ (http://jamorigin.com/products/midi-guitar/)
You can then play whatever synth, organ, violin, cello, peruvian nose flute you want ;)
I have it and it works perfectly. Being a software program it's more useful in studio/recording scenarios than live though.

Seriously: this software is amazing.
It requires no extra hardware and tracks better than my old Roland GK pickup system I had :o
Anyone who has a reasonably good soundcard (preferably with guitar/DI in), computer and DAW should be good to go.
I've just had that weird feeling, you know, the one you get when someone has put a v8 in a prius and when they fire it up your brain gets all confused *that doesn't sound like it should* :o
I want one :)
Think there is a chance this is FV-1 based with custom programming? Or, is it some other form of digital logic?
Someone mentioned EHX using Black Fin DSP chips earlier, so I would imagine they have stuck with that (very powerful) platform.

That would be me and is certainly what they were using for their digital pedals, I don't know if that's true of the newer ones, if so then maybe with external RAM (the micro pog actually did it all with the on board impressively).
An FV-1 version of this can be heard in the EQD Organizer... which I thought sounded awful and laggy.
The only EHX product I know of that used the FV-1 was the Holy Stain... and I imagine it IS the only thing they used it in.
This is great! Now, your rock power trio can double as a jazz organ trio for double the gigs! ;D
I just put in a pre-order with Sweetwater. $220. Been a long time since I bought a commercial pedal new!
Loads of people on The Fretboard have ordered them. I'm waiting for the inevitable flipping once the novelty has worn off :)
Do want.

Will the HOG get the click on the attack? I was really appreciating on the B9 how much that adds to the B3 realism.

I'm curious about tracking too, both pitch and volume decay. I'm guessing there's an abrupt cutoff below a threshold. Otherwise, how would the percussion/click work?
Here's the manual (http://www.ehx.com/assets/instructions/b9.pdf) if anyone is interested.
Now that they have been shipping for a little bit, did anyone here get one? I am really interested in this but want to hear a bot more on it.
Cody
Mine shipped this morning, hopefully be here early next week.
Any word on how you like it yet, Curtis? Keen to hear your opinion... (I guess you're still thinking which guitar to pick to give it a try... days later... ;)).
Got it yesterday, here's the rundown
Good
It's pretty cool. Useable sounds right out of the box. Out of the 9 models, I'd say I'm pretty happy with 6 of them, so that's pretty good
It tracks like a standard guitar pedal, very little lag, if you bend a note, it bends a note.
It is fairly touch sensitive, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your playing style.
It responds to different pickups differently. Best sounds I've got out of it are from PAF style humbuckers, SC are a little too weak, and I wouldn't want to distort the front end with ceramics.
The Bad
It's a 50/50 pedal. 50% of the audience would be convinced there was some sort of organ involved from 50 feet away. Back in the mix it would be fine, which is what I intend to use it for.
The Ugly
There's a faint audible whine when it's bypassed, not overly noticeable on it's own, but if you have a compressor running after it, you hear it. If you were to have it on your board, I'd recommend putting a true bypass box on it.
The Verdict
If you get a chance, try before you buy. Given that they are hard to find, this might not be possible, but it's not a cheap enough pedal where I'd say go for it.
Cheers for that great review... makes me think...
I'm worried about that audible whine in the chain... that doesn't sit well for me.
Might have to consider doing the suggested true bypass thing somehow. Thinking about the space on board...
Thanks Curtis for taking the time for the review. I think I may still grab one from Sweetwater. They should be back in stock next week. I really want to use it for more ambient style stuff wet with reverb. When I had my Pog I always seemed to dial it in to the organ sound and leave it there. I sold the Pog years ago and was looking for something like the B9. Not as a organ player replacement but more as a lush pad on a keyboard replacement.
The wine issue does sound no fun.. were you using the power supply that came with it? I notice with a Holy Grail I have that it will wine on my onespot. Just a thought.
Cody
Full disclosure - I had the B9 daisy chained off a 1 spot when I was testing it, I didn't try it with it's own power supply.
It sounds pretty could with effects. I was running it a little dirty with a Micro Vibe and a Vapour Trails in the FX loop. Awesomesauce.
In a band setting, it's probably fine. On a recording as a non dominant instrument it's probably fine. When you're sitting there just playing it, it's OK. Only reason I said try before buying is it's a $200+ pedal.
Thanks for the report Curtis.

Cheers again. I had whine issues with some pedals when powered by a one spot... so maybe this is another one of those cases...? I might get one if I can get somewhat of an acceptable deal with shipping to NZ... sigh...
