Title: Cupcake swirled compressor
Post by: Gledison on July 02, 2014, 06:33:11 PM
Hey guys!
After some worldcup holidays i had time to finish the cupcake for a friend.
I have nothing to add that has been already said. It's a smooth compressor which don't affect the tone (IMO) and that can be used as a slight booster!
Really great! It was quite a tight fit and i still suffering with the envirotex to cover the sides of the enclosure! Here a tip: after mixing the resin, leave it rest for 10 min untill it get a higher viscosity! Than shrinking on the edges are minimized!
Here some shots...

And the guts:

The swirl came out most awesome. Is there a certain reason you used 2 different In/Out Jacks? You could possible safe some room by squeezing them together, but I think it's hard to drill that 100% correct when using closed style jacks. Why did you put the component side down? also space reasons?
The world cup was also using up my time (but it was mostly work the last days). I have to admit, Germany is not my favorite team, but I think they are the most promising bet on the title.

Hi there,
Hmmm, first of all, Brasil will win!! ;)
Now back to ur questions.:)
I planned, badly, to use 2 closed jacks. The pcb won't fit! I had to change the output jack for a open one i order to fit the pcb! The components are down because the wiring was taking some extra space. This was the way I could fit! Maybe if I have drilled the pot a bit higher would be better, but somehow a slim fit and working! ;)
How is your work with the envirotex going?
Cheers

Man I love you swirl work.. I am not a fan of swirl painting but you seem to pick the right colors and get really cool shapes and patterns that makes me like it... Great job.

Cheers mate! I'm using magic Marble paint. No need for borax. just a bucket with water and the paints. I add no more than 20 drops of the main colour and 5 of the secondary ones.
Let me know if u need any help.

Thanks for info, I use those colour too. But it seems that I've been mixing to much paint, so it gets dry very quickly.
Do you use cold or hot water? and does i matter?

Sweet, I still haven't tried to do swirl finish, this is pretty nice

Do you start with an unfinished box, sprayed white, etc?

Fwiw I had to mount my cupcake upside down too, better use of space and I was still using tall caps at the time

Hmmm! Yes it matters a lot! I've noticed that some colours dry faster than others! I use cold tap water , normally around 20 deg Celsius! Too hot and you will have a quick skin formation! With this colours u need to work very fast! Usually i do all the process within 1-2 min! Also don't forget to use not to much paint! U need enough to cover the surface of the water. The secondary colours just 3-5 drops! Quick swirl and dip it!!
Good luck and let me know your progress!
Cheers

Yeahh! I have only tall caps so allways a pain!
Regarding the finish: i wetsend the box with a 600 grid, than 1200! Than clean with some spirit! Then, automotive white primer for aluminum! 3 or 4 coats! Than backed on a toast oven for 20 min, 50 deg C! Than swirled!

Mann, there are a lot of tutorials out there. i pick up different experiences from different people.
A very good one, is from "haveyouseenhim". He is using borax and enamel oil based paint. What im doing, is a ready to use Magic marble paint. That is the only diffrerence.
here is the link of his great youtube videos:

Again, if you need any help from my side, please let me know! If its really necessary and has not been done yet here in the forum i can write down a new tutorial, no  problem.
Regards
