Title: Flintlock with glitter
Post by: jubal81 on July 28, 2014, 05:08:20 PM
Really having a ton of fun playing with this one. Brilliant work.

Yes, I got the jack top-mounted. I used Smallbear's smallest, Shaved them down and took them right to the edge. Nerve-wracking. That's also a 1776effects relay bypass in there.
The box is etched, painted and envirotexed. That can of red glitter blast is going a long way.  ;)

Were you able to top mount it in a 1590BB?  Or did you have to move up to a 125BB?

It's a 125BB.

Very nice! So, how does the gathering storm sound? Does it cut through, like a knife of dreams, or does it sound cold and wet, like winter's heart? ;) ;)

I am going to put mine in a 125BB too, with top mount jacks.  Good thing I have some of those jacks on hand already.  Thanks for blazing the trail!

You're on a roll with some top notch builds. I've got my flintlock all populated and ready but I've left it on my procrastination pile for the last few weeks as I always have a hard time biasing flangers. Seeing your pics, I might have to get back to it...

How does the gate function? What pot did you use for it? and what JFET did you use?

Whoa, the first build report for this has top-mounted jacks...set the bar nice and high why don't you!  ;)

Just teasing, this looks amazing!

bad ass build jubal!  very glad you like it too!
what is the story with the red glitter paint?  are you filling some of the etched out areas with it?  it looks awesome.
i figured with the right jacks top mounts in a 125bb would go, but it's impossible to tell unless you commence t'drillin holes.  i think it could also be done with those group buy kobiconns but we won't know until someone tries it.

Yeah, i etch, then tape, paint & sand. I've not reached level Cody yet, but I'm getting better at it.

Shoot, your stuff is killing it. That glitter blast paint is a PITA to work with and you definitely got it down to an art brother.

Thanks, bud.

It's definitely a PITA. It's textured and if you sand it, it gets nice & flat, but then it gets dull. What I worked out is to put masking tape over the whole area and use a bright light and razor cutter to just leave the tape on the design areas. Respray, then use the Envirotex to get a nice, smooth finish.

As a comparison, you can see how the sanding dulled the glitter area on the Duplex:

Sooo....

How does the Gate work for you on your build? Did you use a 10K or 100K pot for it?

Just trying to see if this build is comparable to the A/DA builds.  ;)

Oh yeah, I meant to get back to you. I used 10K, but I didn't try the 100K so I can't really speak to a comparison. I also used a 5457 JFET like Keefe. I think it sounds spectacular, but I don't really know enough about the circuit to give good advice on it.

These last couple builds you have done are just unbelievable. I'm hoping for a tutorial on just one of your amazing finishes. You too Cody. Help us newbies who have trouble with just spray paint and a waterslide decal. Ok.....not all newbies....just me. :)

Incredible work. Just...oh why am I praising this so much as if it was a surprise, I mean man whenever I see a topic in build reports started by this fine fine man - I know what to expect.
