Title: Supa Hot 78L05!!!
Post by: brand0nized on August 05, 2014, 06:53:44 AM
Building a Cave Dweller with a Taptation circuit, and when I plug in my 9V DC, the 78L05 regulator gets really hot!

I really want to check the voltages on the whole circuit to debug it, but I'm scared to keep the power plugged in.

What's wrong with it? Did I do some bad soldering to make it happen?

EDIT:
Switched in another regulator, same thing happened

Are you feeding it 9v?

Check to make sure it's in the right orientation. Also the diode and cap.

Otherwise you must have a short or bad joint nearby.

Wrong orientation, the layout I used used a different regulator, thanks! But now new problems...

Glad you sorted it.  Yes, 7805 and 78L05 are different...done that a few times myself.
