Title: PSA - Deadastronaut's Tremshifter project -- filter + tremolo :)
Post by: midwayfair on August 17, 2014, 03:38:05 PM
Rob comes up with some clever projects (lightwah!), but I think this is his first PCB project. Here's the link:

Holy cow, that's cool. Now it just needs two tap LFO controllers for some sweet rate alignment possibilities.  :o

I think you forgot an "f."

A "Tremshiter" probably doesn't sound really good.   ;D

Haha! Does that count as a Freudian slip?   :P

Looks like Chi_Boy (VIPFx) is doing the layouts for him. He must of liked the Chasm layout Chi_boy did. I for one is glad since Rob's circuits are very cool but the veros offboard wiring can get crazy. I definitely will give this build a go.

Yeah, this one looks very interesting! So many good projects out right now!

This is impressive. His designs are on point. The chasm is tied with the tri vibe for my favorite pedal.

Damn!!!

I have something like this in the works right now. Gonna look like a copycat.  :-\

I have to admit that I didn't notice the discrepency when I checked out the link. I just thought it was a crass project name!   ;D

Over the years, you've been very transparent about where your ideas came from.  I suspect folks will believe you if you say it was percolating in your brain long before it came out.

I don't think I'd ever have a reasonable use for this, but I want one anyway.

I like it a lot ... my main reaction to the clip is ... "sci fi movie soundtrack" ... but it's interesting enough to challenge me creatively.

one thing I noticed is that the rate pot is very sensitive between 8 and 10 o' clock, and he doesn't use it much out of that range ... likely it could use a different value there

Rob does not like to fiddle with pot tapers. I believe he used reverse-wired Linear or Log taper pots for the Rate controls where he should have used Rev Log (C-taper) pots wired correctly.

Just ordering parts for a lot of projects, including this one.
Sorry, I can't find the LDRs anywhere, 2k-24k.
Which of these could I use instead: http://www.banzaimusic.com/Photocells/ (http://www.banzaimusic.com/Photocells/)
Or optocouplers?
Thank you.

I asked the same question on diysb and seems like people are using tayda ldrs. I've just ordered my pcb today and so I'll report back on my build report...

The spec for Tayda is 500k, IIRC, and you can always parallel resistors to reduce a LDR's resistance. (Might do odd things to the response curve, but that never comes up, weirdly.)

Is there any official way to snag a PCB for this or does it just involve sending rob an email??

pm him on diysb but I'm not sure he's got any left (he'll be shipping them out soon).

I'd sent him a PM a while back and he responded today with an address to gift the money to - so i did.

Tis way down the list, but I've got one. I've got so many PCBs now it's getting silly...

Well built it. Tayda LDRs with clear blue LEDs (It's very sensitive to the LEDs and they dramatically alter the filter range and the trems choppiness).

It's a really interesting effect, very Lovetone-esque. I've just got other stuff that already covers this territory so I'll probably strip the pots and switches from it and trade it. It'd work well in a multi as it really likes a fuzz in front or a reverb/delay behind.
