Title: Fell off the NGD wagon, hard.....
Post by: GermanCdn on September 19, 2014, 05:05:18 PM
So I've been trying to cut back, offloaded a dozen guitars in the last two months.  The instances of me sneaking guitars into the house under the cover of darkness have been substantially reduced.  The mailman is pretty sure I've died or left the country.

Then, on Tuesday, there's a message about a clearance sale at my favourite guitar haunt.  They've brought in all the used gear from every store in Western Canada and they are blowing it out.

I am a weak man.

It was insane.  I don't remember what exactly happened, cause it was a junkie fest like I have never seen.  People running out of arms to carry things.  Cars getting towed with owners standing in line watching saying "Meh, the tow bill's still going to be less than what I saved."  I'm pretty sure I had a fairly carnal experience.

When it was over (it only took four minutes, I'm a quick high), I walked out with....

A brand new Fender Cabronita

A Fender Jerry Donahue Telecaster

A brand new quilt top EVH Wolfgang

A 2012 metal flake Gibson Les Paul

So much for my sobriety.  Pictures when I get home.

Jesus Christ.

Sold 12, bought 4. Still not too bad I guess ;)

I feel like I have slipped back into GAS addiction when I buy a new pedal!

I wanna see some pics of the new haul.

Four minutes!?

It was grab and go.  Some dude was humming and hawing on the JD, I grabbed a 4X12 cab, stood on it and grabbed it over him.  Prison yard rules apply.

Exactly.  How do you pass up a brand new Cabronita for $199?

I wouldn't have passed on that either, regardless of need.

I saw a couple of Ibanez headstocks being used as weapons, that's pretty close to getting shanked.....

Yeah, that's happened before, but four in one day is a new high/low.

In in defence of disposable income, the total for all four guitars was under $1800 US.

Yeah, you are so going to hate me for this but....

The one I bought is exactly the same as the one Jerry gave me, same colour, same year.  It's getting a pickup swap (either the BKP set I have that's collecting dust, or a SD Donahue/Lil 59 combo).

Yup.  PRS/G&L tower full, EBMM corner is now stacked to the ceiling, acoustic row is maxed out, some guitars now finding their way into the workout room, new house won't be ready until after Christmas.  Current plan is to build a 42" X 96" 5 shelf guitar rack in the new place, and on last calculation that's now too small.

No need to feel guilty. If you can afford it, go for it! I know I would if I could. Can't wait to see some pics.

Yeah, er, I went back today for day 2......

The new brood in its entirety

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/538/HSardW.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/eyHSardWj)

Left to right

New Fender FSR Fender Cabronita Tele
New EVH Wolfgang Special quilt top (with TSA Flight Case and Case Candy)
Used Gibson 2012 Silver Metal Flake Les Paul Studio (with OHSC) - getting a pickup and electronics change, I don't like the 489/490 combo
Used Fender JD Telecaster - getting a pickup and electronics change as well
Marshall JVM Head
Traynor 112 Sealed/Open back cabinet (you can remove the back panel easily with three thumbscrews) with a Celestion G12H inside
EBMM Stingray Bass with case

Entire lot came in just shy of $3k USD.  Pretty wicked deals.

Awesome!

I might be interested the LP pickups. My Studio has some rather dreadful GFS Duncan clones in there, and I hate them.

Your NGD weakness for great deals is infectious. NGD post to follow in a few days.  ;D

I willfully accept my role as an enabler in your addiction CJ.

As far as the pickups go, I've got a new Toneshapers harness on the way, so pickups will probably be out in a couple of weeks.  If you're interested in uncovered ones, I've also probably got a set coming out of an SG in the not too distant future.

I really don't need to hear about this kind of stuff!  If I got word of one of my local joints doing something like, I'm sure I would let it get out of hand way too easily.  I'd actually probably have to start thinking about flipping stuff.

Over the two days of the sale, they beat their previous best two day sales figure by $80,000+.  Needless to say, they are doing it again next year.

Most likely it will be converted to guitar case storage.
