Title: TrailFazer (Univox Micro Fazer Clone)
Post by: Stomptown on November 04, 2014, 06:37:53 AM
I finally debugged my Univox Micro Fazer Clone and verified the new layout, which I'm pretty stoked about!  The PCB fits standard in a 1590B with a right angle 16mm pot or as I've done it in a 125B with a 16mm straight pin pot mounted on the side of the enclosure like the original (this requires opposite taper pot and works in reverse).

I had some fun with the JFET layout and added an extra pad to accommodate any JFET pinout. So far I've tried a set if 2SK30As and a set of 2N5952s and they both sound nice. I'm a little bummed that the  "I" and "L" in TrailFazer became one giant L during the etch but I can live with it.  I will be adding these to my webstore hopefully by tomorrow if anyone is interested.

That is a beautiful layout on the PCB. Reminds me of something Jack Deville would do with the great cemetery. Great looking etch also.

Cool build!

I'm doing the same side knob thing lately, less wires!

Wicked layout, wicked wiring, wicked looking thing! Bravo sir.
What about the sound? I guess it's pretty similar to the phase 90 right?

Having played an original when it was new in the box (dating myself here), I seem to recall the Micro was more subtle than either the P90 or Small Stone.  The effect was more dominant in the low end????

Thanks guys! This ones definitely lies somewhere between a P45 and P90 and I'd tend to agree that it's more dominant on the low end.  It gets pretty wacky at the end if the rotation but I guess most phasers do.

I saw the band Swervedriver use one of these onstage back in the '90s. It does sound really nice! They had it set for the wackier sounds for sure.

I really like symmetry and clever asymmetry, and this layout/pedal displays both exceptionally well.

In all my reminiscing babble I forgot to mention that I'd totally be in for a board.  I worked in a music store when checking out the original and wished I'd bought it.

I will try to get them added to my web store this evening!
