Title: power filtering electrolytic cap recommendation
Post by: nieradka on December 12, 2014, 01:05:14 AM
Ive used up my bag of cheap tayda 100uf caps ive been using, so I need to buy another hundred or three, does anyone have any recommendations/favorites? Mouser is making me dizzy.

For this application, low esr doesnt matter, no? I dont often build 1590a, so size doesnt matter. I just dont want to have to worry about their reliability, or failing in 8-10 years.

Thanks for the quick response. Is theres any reason to pay the few extra bucks, for the 105C rated caps over the 85C? Such as, will they last longer? Or at 30C max operating temp will it just not matter?

I can't think of a reason that I'd go for the 105C over the 85C. It looks to me like the FW series is actually rated to have a longer life. For power filtering where it doesn't call for low ESR, I use the FW series all the time and they're good. For electrolytics in the audio path, I use the Nichicon FG series and they are good too. If you do need a low ESR electro, the Nichicon PS series or the Panasonic FR series are both good.
