Title: ICL7660SCPA and ICL7660CPAZ
Post by: andregarcia57 on January 09, 2015, 10:55:58 PM
I'm mounting sunking II

There are some different between ICL7660SCPA and ICL7660CPAZ?
thanks

This mouser comparison will show you the differences:

For the Sunking, either one will work.

The Z just means it's lead free (ROHS compliant). That's all.

The ICL7660S (ICL7660SCPA) model has the Boost pin (pin 1).  That is what the Sunking II calls for.  The standard ICL7660 (ICL7660CPAZ) does not have it.

I should not use ICL7660CPAZ in sunking?

I found this thread from the man, himself.

The way I understand it, circuits calling for a 7660S may have an audible whine when using a standard 7660.

Many apologies. I misread. I thought you were comparing a 7660SCPA VS 7660SCPAZ. My mouser link compares those two charge pumps.  Chuck is right if you really meant the 7660CPAZ.  THAT IC may introduce wine or hum into the circuit. Again, sorry for misreading. Steve.

here I only found the ICL7660CPAZ and the MAX 1044 CPA

MAX 1044 CPA can do the job in sunking?
thanks

There also it would be preferable to use the scpa version.
Are you able to find TC1044 SCPA maybe ? These are good and often even cheaper (at least where i shop)

Two more that are good to use if you can find them are the TC7660H and the LT1054. The H variety have a much higher clock rate (120kHz) and the LT1054 is all around better. The nominal clock rate for the 1054 is stated to be 25kHz but every one I've tested has been above 30kHz.

The only thing with the LT1054 is that you'll have to keep the boost pin (pin 1) of the IC from being connected since it is connected on the PCB. I use a socket and then clip the pins on the socket and the IC in these situations.
