Title: Tap tempo...tape delay. Yep
Post by: culturejam on January 24, 2015, 07:30:29 AM
Seen on the Instagrams.

Apparently T-REX is making it, and it's gonna be about $700. But it looks badass.

Can't figure out how to link a specific post on Instagram. I don't think Instagram wants you to use anything but Instagram. :)

Why not? Tap delays use pots just like everything else for the tape speed. You just use a microcontroller and a digipot. What's far less likely is that it's an actual product, and not something they just put together for NAMM to get people to post about it on forums.

Hopefully all the tape laying around isn't a vision of a future event...

Could also be a tactic to test the water and see if the product could really be succesful or not.

I believe there's a years-old thread at TGP about them promising this was coming.

haha.

In all seriousness, people on TGP saying "I want that" is zero indication of the likelihood a product will sell. They want it because they want everything, but once they see the price tag, they won't want it any more. It could be $350 and you'll have people complaining that they just can't see paying that for a delay.

I really don't care about the tap tempo. But if somebody would develop a small-ish tape delay head unit (not a pedal), I'd definitely be willing to shell out some cheddar. The Fulltone thing is awesome I guess, but it's huge and too expensive.

I wish Hiwatt would start making their tape delay again. I've been trying to find one on the used market for ages, but none ever pop up.

Tape echo is awesome. I'm sure TGP and GS peeps are already lining up to buy one!

I want one, and I desperately want to know how it works (and for that matter, what the actual working range of delay times would be).
