Title: why would an optical bypass pop??
Post by: copachino on February 27, 2015, 04:08:34 AM
danm im getting like crazy over here have two pedals i really like but they pop like hell, and afterlife and a SHO, so i said why not an optical bypass, SHO works good like two days, then the pop returns, also the afterlife, they only pop when engage the pedal when turn off zero pop, have no leds just to be sure, and nothing, bypass works fine, but its an optical relay, why would it pop??, also i have seen that if i touch the enclosure or the switch with my hand, a get that noise in the pedal as if i were touching the tip.... ot so sure why.

also i have no pcb mount switch i have wire a 3pdt as dpdt to make it work.

DC on the input/output?

DC on the input/output?

Likely this. Possibly from another pedal too, had that happen to someone before who claimed a pedal of mine popped. Asked him to try it on it's own and it didn't pop...

well im trying the pedals out of the board on its own with a really clean PSU from GGG, i tried other pedals to see and they dont pop, on the SHO im using non polarized caps for in and outs, a 10uf MMC capacitor for that, and still pops, sometimes harder sometimes not, it just pops on loud levels of the amps, on 1 i can hear the pop

i did another test to see if there its DC voltage i just disconnect the power from the pcb and leave the power on the optoboard, and still pops like hell, when you leave it a few time alone the guy pops so hard if you keep making it bypass starts to lower the pop.

any idea??

EDIT:

i just unplug the whole pedal pcb and just leave the optboard with nothing on the pcb inputs, also remove the input jack, and the damn thing still pops... so its not just the popping pcbs but the optical relay pops too.... not so sure why but i will use a real dpdt on there to see if the cables are making the pops

EDIT2: yeah, i used i dpdt alpha for switching and i got the same damn pop....i really getting mad with this two pedas
