Title: Clean octavio
Post by: adam_bz on March 05, 2016, 05:19:49 PM
Where's the octave input section for the retro grade on the schematic? Looking at removing the fuzz totally. Cheers

Look at the right portion of the schematic. I don't have it up, but I think its a .33mf electro, going into the transformer. The diodes and the transformer create the octave.

You can't remove the fuzz entirely. You CAN remove the octaving.

The fuzziness is created in two ways. First, you've got a couple very high gain stages in a row, and the signal is clipped by the rectifying diodes that create the octave. You can remove the clipping by shorting the diodes, but you'll still have the huge amount of gain to deal with.

If you're looking for a clean upper octave, there's no such thing in analog. The octave is dirty because the only way to create an octave in an analog device necessarily produces a huge amount of distortion.

You could just go with a Green Ringer.
