Title: sourcing good silicon transistor set for fuzz face
Post by: raccoondad on April 18, 2016, 11:05:41 PM
I know this has been asked before but I also know sources can change with time.. any recommendations for a place to buy a good matched set of silicon transistors for a fuzz face build? not looking for clean up as much as that good high gain fuzzy sound. willing to pay a bit more for a pair that is already matched. thanks!

Banzai Music in Europe are the only ones I know of.
You can buy I cheap multimeter with a HFE function and match your own silicone, won't work with Germanium though.
I think that is why not many places sell them matched, it's so easy and cheap to DIY.
Good luck

I would check out Small Bear Electronics. Although, as the previous poster implied, I would rather invest in a DMM that can measure HFE.

This is the one I bought it measures HFE and capacitance as well, and it's performed flawlessly since I've had it. It's definitely paid dividends for pedal building and amp work.
