Title: Tychobrahe Parapedal
Post by: Jules on July 04, 2016, 11:26:17 AM
Has anybody cloned the old Tychobrahe Parachute Wah or know if there is a PCB available to do so?

John Lyons (of Basic Audio) etched me a PCB a number of years ago. It was an updated negative ground version

It sounds like real filter wah, I think it is great for bass. It shouldn't be to hard to build from schematic I saw, it is positive ground pedal and that is only "unusually thing" and also it uses dual 10k pot which can be found on ebay. I might do a layout, since it sounds different from inductor based wah.. :)

There's a 2 vero layouts for it on TagboardFX. Both positive ground or negative ground.

I built the latter one and it worked, but it was very picky in the sweep range of the dual pot. The wrong notch and there was suddenly no wah at the extreme ends of the sweep. I also could never really find a good dual gang 10K log pot with the right long shaft that would fit inside a wah.

Did you try this pot? http://www.ebay.com/itm/10K-DUAL-POT-LONG-SHAFT-POTENTIOMETER-FOR-TYCOBRAHE-PARAPEDAL-AUDIO-TAPER-RARE-/391476853204?

i've wanted to make one of these for years but never found the correct pot. it should be possible to adjust the taper of the pot by adding some resistors/trim pots in parallel or series. you would have to experiment to figure it out.

A long time Robin Trower fan and this was his wah of choice for a narrow period of time from For Earth Below till the BLT albums.  If the parts are available I'd totally be into this one.

The Wilson effects Freaker Wah seems pretty cool with a few more tone/Q options.
You can get the pot from ebay also.
I am waiting for my Boomer Pcb in the mail Brejna, it would be great to see you do something with this one also, you do great work.
I am using a lot of wah in 1 of the bands I am in at the moment (3 piece) so I want to try them all out even though I do like the Weener wah I am currently using.

R.G. Keen did one--which means that there's probably ample support threads on diystompboxes.com should you decide to build.

Yup, it is. I don't know where did they put Q pot and it seems for sweep caps they are using double cap change.
Thanks for kind words :) I will make layout, but I will share it throught OSH park. Also we could try to brainstorm possibilities for all modes for this circuit..

Thanks Brane, I would be happy to get a few boards from Oshpark when you do a layout.
I wont be much help with the Brainstorming as I am just a humble build by numbers type.
Thanks again
