Title: Sunking: Which parts should I socket?
Post by: Myramyd on August 23, 2011, 04:33:32 PM
Hey all,

I've had the board a while but I'm finally ready to populate it. I just wondered which parts I should socket beforehand? I've seen numerous threads on people experimenting with component values but, are there more common/necessary part values that are experimented with? Obviously the clipping diodes--but what else?

Thanks!
J

The diodes and C15 are the ones I'd do right off the bat, and of course the ic's.

C15 a lot of folks were using 6n8 instead of 3n9.  I used 8n2.  Some people have used film for some of the polarized 1uf's as well.  I did not.

I don't know of anything else, but I've only built one so far.  Someone else might have more ideas.

I increased mine as well. It's amazing how much improvement from that one cap change.

That gives increased bass response, right?

Yes. You'll notice a good difference in the tone knob.

Just a little note...

If you are using a single-sided board, the cap that is being discussed is C14 on that layout, not C15.
