Title: Percolator builders
Post by: matmosphere on May 04, 2017, 11:28:34 PM
I just got some 2n404a's from Newark for $2 each, way cheaper than I've seen them anywhere else.

Just thought I'd give the heads up.

hmmm, ya $2.87 CND as well. seems like a pretty decent deal, i wouldn't have thought a fairly large distributor would stock these. How old is this stock? Are they still making this part?

I've been eyeing those for a while. They are used in one of the cheap Chinese germanium fuzz face clones and are made by NTE (new stock).

Have you measured them for gain/leakage? Curious to see what results you're getting (in terms of consistency from unit to unit).

Just did a quick check with my cheap tayda tester. I only picked up three at the moment but they measure 158, 240, and 306. Obviously the tester doesn't measure leakages, I'll try to measure that at some point this weekend.

Also picked up a half dozen 2n404's. They measured between 50-130 hfe. I think I have a good set in their for a tonebemder ii.

Hopefully I can knock out a build this weekend and see how some of these sound.
