Title: Buying knobs from Mouser
Post by: Timko on May 31, 2017, 05:58:23 PM
As I get more and more into big orders from Mouser, I was curious how I should order knobs.  I go with 6mm or 1/4" solid shafts on nearly all my builds, so I'm trying to only see knobs that are set screw.  I've gotten to this point on my Mouser search with a shaft size filter:

However, there's no filter to select a knurled inside or a set screw. For example, this comes back in my search:

Which is a common knurled connection knob.  So does this:

I'm still getting the hang of filtering my Mouser queries.  Is there a trick to getting just set screw knobs?

Messing around the best i've been able to do so far is start a search with "set screw" you get a page of hits, did a 'Control F' search for 'knob' and there was a link for 80 Knobs and dials. No idea on how inclusive that is. I've mostly order various Davies knobs from Mouser.

That's what I was thinking I'd have to do.  I was looking forward to finding knobs that weren't Davies or Davies clones, but it looks like I'll have to just peruse the entire collection then read data sheets.

I've had mixed success with Mouser knobs for various reasons.  I used to get some cool Eagle knobs like on a space echo but they got ridiculous in price.
I buy almost all knobs from small bear now.  You always know what you are getting.

On a side note...  Mouser search doesn't always pick up every part that fits your search criteria.  It's all about how the part was placed in the system and sometimes there are stragglers.  So I often search multiple suppliers sites and circle back to mouser if I'm searching for something specific.

Thanks for the info :).  I was trying to find some knobs that are different from the normal ones I order from BLMS.  Smallbear has a few different ones, as does Mammoth.

Is there some place that people get knobs from, especially something a little different?

BLMS has a good selection.  Currently, they have some limited run aluminum knobs.
Kinda pricey, but nice.
