Title: reverse polarity protection diodes
Post by: andywragg on September 07, 2011, 02:02:22 PM
HI,

The Chunk Chunk has a 1N4004 as reverse polarity protection. Could I sub this with a 1N4001?

As I see it the difference is the voltage 50v (1N4004) as opposed to 30v (1N4001).

I cant get 1N4004 in UK.

Going by what the poster on DIYSB's said, using a 1n4007 would provide enough protection to almost never blow that diode right?

you're not likely to EVER plug something into a pedal that would even come close to what the 4007 can block. it's really excessive.

Except they're only rated for 1A continuous forward current so you could blow it with a really stout supply hooked up backwards, but most supplies with enough guts will also have some crowbar protection so it shouldn't ever really be an issue.
