Sorry if this is a really basic electronics question, but ... I'm interested in building a quad box extension cord to throw in my gig bag. It seems like every DIY posting out there is followed by dire warnings in posted comments.

Are these truly a bad idea safety-wise or can I build one following online instructions. Any advice appreciated.
Well, anytime there is a project that works with wall voltages, there are probably going to be some warnings.
Just curious, what's the advantage of this vs. a power strip with an on/off switch? The power strip might actually be cheaper and less bulky.
As an electrician by trade I can say there is no danger if you properly terminate all the wires. That said I don't see any benefit to this over a power strip with an on off switch. The power strip probably weighs less and probably cheaper too
