Title: Very Cool "Hyper Tap" Prepared Tapping Instrument
Post by: aziltz on October 05, 2011, 12:39:05 AM
Here's an interesting project.  If you've ever heard of "prepared piano" you will understand this.  I designed the electronics & PCB for this project based on my opamp buffer circuit.  (16 channels with two mixed outputs and individual outputs to drive an A/D Converter as a trigger).

The musician playing it is Scott.  He approached me in late August looking for some help with the electronics.  We used dorkbotpdx's prototype service to get the PCBs.  I essentially designed an 8 channel buffer, in which he used 2 boards for his 16 strings.

I had seen pictures of the instrument as it was being built, but I did not know it was to be a "prepared" piece until I got this link from Scott.

Boy that's an interesting instrument. I can see if it were refined and tuned a little better it could be very musical. His test was too atonal for me, but boy is it interesting!
