When mounting these on a PCB, should these be aimed directly at the LED, or does it matter. Thanks, CJ

Generally directly at the LED. The only case where I don't do that is when I have multiple LDRs keying off one LED (like in an optical phaser). In that case I usually flush mount the LDRs and use a light shield.
