Title: FatPants - Accidentally use a 16v Elec for the 47uF, any damage?
Post by: Effectsiation on November 09, 2011, 08:21:19 PM
Folks,

I built a FatPants with a 16v 47uF elec capacitor instead of one rated for like 25v. Aside from it not working (would using the wrong voltage rated cap alone do that?), do you think I caused any damage to the rest of the circuit or the charge pump?

I'd be shocked if it damaged anything.  That cap is just there to smooth any residual ripple on the 9V input.

If the cap blew, it would be catastrophic. As in, the capacitor itself would look like a smoking ruin.

Yes, if the cap is blown it would be a problem. However, C5 is not going to be a problem at 9V, which is what it would see.

Easy way to find out mesure voltages... that will confirm that you 16v. cap is ok.

Thanks Guys! Will check this out tomorrow when I have some free time. Thinking I might have a bad charge pump, luckily I now have others to try in its place.
