Title: Umble on a perfboard
Post by: pgodfrin on December 02, 2019, 12:57:05 AM
Greetings Folks,
Just finished an ROG Umble on a perfboard, it works, but it's got a decent whistle and a hum (a few bars and see if I know it...). I'm still a novice at this stuff, don't really understand much (of biology...) or analog audio circuits, so I'm certainly bewildered (and bewitched). Can someone help me understand what causes a whistle/whine sound?
Also, wit this particular Umble, very interesting the whistle get softer at a particular point on the volumne (gain) knob. And the EQ knobs don't really seem to do very much, except make the whine louder. Thanks in advance for any help.

p.s sorry I couldn't help myself

My also newbie gut tells me it could be something between a ground loop, or input/output wires running close to each other, or the wires from the board to the pots tangled somehow causing cross-talk? The wiser people of this forum will be of much greater help  ;D

if it's in a box, take everything out of the box, as far away from each other, and see if you still get the same whistle/noise
