Title: Fat Pants at 18 volts?
Post by: Hack_Black on April 03, 2020, 05:15:19 PM
I built the Fat Pants EP booster a while back (great pedal). Can I run this pedal at 18 volts? At the moment the only thing I have for power is an 18 volt adapter.

It actually already does that with the charge pump. Plugging in an 18v adapter to the charge pump will damage it, so hard no.

That's what I thought. Thanks. I can't find my daisy chain and I don't have a battery. I just have to wait.

Brian might have forgotten that he put a 15V Zener in as overvoltage protection. If you plug in your 18V adapter and use the LT1054, you would actually be pretty safe.

If you want to drop your 18V supply a little at the input to get it down to about 15V so you don't risk blowing the zener at some point in the future, you can use a blue LED in place of D1 and it'll suck up 3V. You'll get closer to 45V total instead of 27V.

The danger at that point might actually be the maximum voltage on the J201, but I think it's still safe.
