Title: Rat Problems
Post by: Rocktifier on November 21, 2011, 06:05:54 PM
Hey guys, I have Keeley modded Rat that's been acting up on me.  I've had it for a few years.  Sometimes when I engage the effect everything sounds very muffled and quiet.  If I turn it off and then on again it works normally.  It seems to do it at random.  I thought it might be the footswitch as it had the cheap looking epoxy.  I replaced it but the problem remains.  Any thoughts on what it might be so I know where to start troubleshooting.

Thanks!
Ryan

Ryan,

It could potentially be the age of the pedal that's causing you problems, unless of course it's a reissue. If it's older than 20 or so years, it's possible a cap could be going bad or has already.

If that isn't the issue, I'd say you need to crack that baby, take some pics, and let us have a look. Then you need to do the same old debugging steps, checking the solder job and wiring, taking some IC voltages, you know.
