Title: White Horse for rackmount, (eliminate soft effect/bypass)?
Post by: Blue Jinn on May 20, 2020, 08:38:26 PM
Hello,

Looking at building one of these to rack for use on a channel insert with a dedicated +/- 15v PSU. The blend control is really appealing, especially for vocals.

It will either be patched in or out, so I don't really  need the electronic bypass.   I'm a bit lost exactly how the delayed on/off works. If I'm understanding the notes correctly, I should be able to just eliminate  the bypass LED, if in effect mode 0v is applied to R19. Then just wire ins and outs per the schematic. ?

Thanks

Just pull the in and out directly off the board and use the switch board for power only or replace with your +/- 15.  That said, I think the circuit will handle 15v as long as you up the caps from 16 to 25v?

Is the White Horse quiet enough to use on vocals?

Thanks!

So leave everything   as is but don't utilize the switch board.

For vocals I'd probably use it fairly gently. Another uneducated assumption: It looks like you could add a switch to the drive and clipping circuitry to take it out of the signal path altogether.    I haven't built one, but it looks a lot like the DoD 280, with makeup gain and a more complicated side chain.

Hey Blue,

Did you ever end up doing this? How did it work out?
