Title: Question regarding Standout Pots
Post by: miltonsummerset on November 26, 2020, 04:09:40 PM
Hello. I'm planning to build the Standout based on the material provided on the VFE homepage (board layout, schematic etc.)
I kindly ask if anyone can answer my remaining questions:

1. I bought dual C100k pots. I'm planning to solder a 10k resistor in parallel to one of the tapers, so there will be a 100k and a 10k resistance. Is this going to work or do I need to replace the wafers?
2. At the schematic the pots aren't labelled, so I'm not sure which "level" of the pots has to have 100k (the contacts closer OR further away from the pot)?

I hope my questions can be understood, English isn't my mother's tongue ;-)

Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply.

The upper row of the dual pots are the 10k wafers. You can actually confirm this with just a multimeter on the two outside pins to measure the resistance of each wafer. I think your idea of using a 10k in parallel with 100k pot should work fine to make the 100k/10k combo. But, be sure solder them between the wiper and pin3 (the left side one) on the appropriate pot. For both dual pots, pin1 has no connection.

Just to be absolutely sure: by saying "the upper row" you mean when looking from the shaft side?  ;)

The row that is closest to the top edge of PCB.
