Title: Muff Trannie Experiments
Post by: fman7 on July 25, 2021, 03:05:56 AM
So I built 2 identical muff clones to experiment with different trannies and blocking/feedback caps etc.
So now caps in both are identical,
put BC109c's in one, sounds awesome
BC549c and 2N5088 in second one, sounded crap no sustain
Muffroom Cloud clone with BC549c's sounds as good as one with 109's.
Can't get my head around why the trannies in second one sound so crap

cheers

The BC549C may have a pinout opposite to the 2N5088. Did you check the data sheet and ensure they were installed properly?

Thanks Bennie,

I did check and verify the pinouts.

I always liked transistors with gains of around 200 for BMPs. The best sounding one I've made so far uses 4 generic unmarked transistors and all have gains of 180-200.
