Title: VFE Alpha Dog at 18volts
Post by: shedland on September 27, 2021, 07:02:33 AM
Needing some advice here,

I am planing on putting two VFE boards into one build, a Fiery Horse, and the Apha Dog.

The Fiery Horse can be run with 9 or 18 volts.

Is there any reason I cant run the Alpha Dog at 18 volts, the LM308 should be fine, and I have a spare 18 output on my power supply.

The LM308 is good @ 18V, the output buffer 2N5458 is rated for 25V, and the BS170 in the feedback loop won't see anywhere near 18V, so you won't blow anything up.  Some things to check are (1) all your caps are rated 25V or higher, and (2) set the CLR values for your LED's using 18V rather than 9V.
