I'm entering a circuit into eagle, it needs 2 batteries to make +9 and -9 Volts.
As batteries and me have a complicated and not that good relationship, i would like to use a 9v supply instead and thought that the road rage would provide the -9v efficiently.
Looking at the schematic, i noticed that half of the road rage isn't necessary if i want only -9v.
So i stripped down the road rage schematic while looking at the ICL7660S data sheet (http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/FN3179.pdf : same pinouts and functionalities as the MAX1044) to make a wanna be -9V provider based on the road rage.
I wanted to be sure it would work before etching so i breadboarded it :
following this idea : i'm using only the left part of the road rage schematic:

My DMM says i have -0.5 Volts at the output of the negative supply.. can anyone help me understand why?
Ok, so it appears that the IC really needs the connections of pin 3 to ground :)
I plugged it in and it works perfectly.
