Title: Forum issues
Post by: madbean on March 17, 2024, 12:34:30 AM
Not sure how well things are working. Report problems here.

Congrats on the overhaul!

Only weird thing I noticed is that 'updated topics' is showing me just five threads that seemingly that range from their most recent post being over a year ago, to a month ago.

Not sure how to embed an image anymore but I could DM you a screenshot on instagram you'd like to see what I'm talking about.

Looking good!

Is there a way to get the links that were at the top of the old page back? That was very handy.

Only thing I noticed is that when I first pulled up the page I tried to log in. When I did, it did NOT show that I was logged in. I had to actually open this thread to see that I was properly logged in. Weird!

Also... no avatar. Need to upload again??

We're back! My avatar did not show up first either, and a different user name was appearing; that seems to have sorted itself out.

Looking forward to the restocks; I have parts for a Current Lover itching to be installed.  :D

my username on the front page currently shows up as haberdasher, which imputes a level of skill and expertise that I just do not possess. When I click through to my profile, it shows my info though.

Time zones NOT working under Forum Profile. Tried to set it to EST but it is still 1 hour too slow (its really 11AM EST and forum shows 10AM) and when I try to go back further... I get a token error  :-\

Hey, we're back!

I went to this thread via the main menu.  When I got here there were no buttons on the top and no way to post.

I went back to home and clicked the "unread topics" button, this thread was one of those.  When I came here through that route all the buttons were populated.

Definitely a problem with cookie storage. That would explain most everything. I'll see if I can get it sorted.

I wonder if it's cookie related... for some reason it's okay on my phone, but on desktop after clearing them it won't let me log in at all. Strange. But glad it's up!

When on the homepage, it indicates I haven't logged in with options for login or signup. When I come to this thread, it shows me logged in at the top left of the page. I also can't see the content headings for members - just the links for the general pop open to everyone. Glad you're back up. Looking forward to full functionality.

Post by: madbean on April 09, 2024, 11:06:14 PM
There is a cookie problem for sure. There are several options for how cookies are used in the smf admin panel but none of them seem to be helping. I've tried enabling local cookie storage and forcing SSL forwarders. For the meantime we are just going to have to put up with a half operating forum until I can get it fixed. But, better this than leaving the whole thing offline like it has been for the last few weeks.

The other thing that's happening is it seems when people log in the user panel shows someone else's account (as people have mentioned). There's no access to other member's accounts, it just shows their member name as far as I can tell.

I may have to just give up the ghost and pay for something like Xenforo and also someone to migrate the database to it. I'm not against that, it's just frustrating as hell.

test. I hope this is posting as my (jessenator), because I can see things that aren't mine  ???

Like, I can see more of the whole user control panel, options to change another users data, see their PMs, etc. it's all there... a bad actor's wildest dream.

came to the forum to check if it's back yet and had some other name, but once i logged in it was fine.

glad to see it back and the shop had changes made, sent you a email thinking something happened, glad it was just the updating you mentioned some time ago.

after posting i was sent back to the main section, appeared to be logged out. cookies are kind of working properly, haven't been in a CMS in a long while so i'm probably of no help.  ;D
Title: Re: Forum issues

Still randomly showing as logged in and then when moving to a thread or back to main page it shows as logged out.
Also, posts on threads do not show up after posting. They take a bit of time to show.

EDIT: Also, forum time is screwed up. Even when I can select a time zone to get it to show as correct, as soon as I change pages it reverts back to the wrong time. If you change the time zone too many times you get a "token error" and it is still screwed up.

Welcome back!  I just hit the front page to log in, and it showed me already logged in as dan schumaker, who I'm not.  But after navigating a few pages, my login name shows correctly in the banner, and it's my account settings.

I was logged on as Haberdasher, or Jimilee, or myself depending on what area of the forum I was in.

Wasn't able to post in the build reports until I was, neither are showing up in the subs, and with the second one I got an error page saying I'd already submitted the post.

Things are getting better. The home page remembers me being logged in, and I'm still logged in when I navigate back to it, and I can see the hosted support forums now when none of this was working for me yesterday. Keep tinkering!

FWIW it seems to be closer to normal now, showing logged in on all the pages I've tried. It is a great mystery. Also a great use for those eclipse glasses, with the light mode an all.

Is there any sort of server-side caching enabled? This is a performance option that basically generates a static page the first time a page is viewed, and the cache is an HTML copy of what was viewed that is served to visitors instead of regenerating the page from scratch each time.

Typically the cache should be set up so that it's bypassed for logged-in users. If it's being generated and loaded even when a user is logged in, you would see the issues reported here (that I am seeing as well) where as you click through different pages, sometimes you're logged in, sometimes not, and sometimes you are a different user or there's a different theme.

Alerts are being really glitchy. I started out with 3, marked all of them "read", they cleared, then immediately went back to 3 when I navigated to a new page. But after navigating to a few other pages they cycled between 0 and randomly as 2. Now it's back to the original 3. "New" tags won't clear on anything regardless if I click "mark read", view the post, etc.

I've got the cache off (after the switch). But maybe I should run the repairsettings.php that you can use with smf. Lemme see if there's a remaining cahce that can be purged. So annoying.

Yep, I still see that issue too. There are some others I've noticed as well.

I randomly switch to the brown theme for a post and then back to regular.

The unread posts page doesn't immediately clear once I've visited, it takes a little while.

Going to a post I've visited always takes me to the first post/page.

Edit: it took about 2 hours for this post to show up for me.

I have found a temporary workaround that works for me.

After clearing any cookies, go to https://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php? (https://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?) with the "?" at the end of the normal url to login and anytime you are going back to the main forum page.  This seems to bypass the cache and make the request to the forum itself.

Hope this helps!
