Title: Anyone tried an anodization on an enclosure?
Post by: djaaz on January 28, 2012, 02:34:28 AM
I remembered doing this in class, colorizing aluminum.
Googled it a bit, looks quite easy.

Anyone tried?

No, but I absolutely love the look.

Have everything needed to make a test except the courage to sand an enclosure, that's why i asked before in case i should not waste time on it.

Might do that tomorrow, will post the results.

I've read that anodizing doesn't work well on cast aluminum. That has put me off of giving it a try. But, what's the harm in trying?

First try failed.
I let the enclosure around 30 min in the bath, did not seem to even anodize.

Will try another time, with more acid & longer. Will see.

My power supply died! I tested it on the first attempt but i've been doing several tests with a dead supply.
I have an old PC ATX power supply that i will transform in a lab supply and rerun some tests.

In the meanwhile, i'm doing my first enclosure etch for my dirtbag. Looks easier but i'm sure i'll have another blooper to share.
