Title: Pork Barrel is finished!
Post by: jkokura on September 30, 2010, 09:28:36 PM
I built a Pork Barrel. It's pretty great. Shots include my favorite setting so far. Feel free to ask me any questions if you're struggling with one.

Strike a pose.

And the Guts. As noted elsewhere, I've installed the board parts down, so a true gut shot is boring. Instead here are three pics: 1) the pots and switches mounted and wired, Jacks, LED and 3PDT mounted 2) Parts side of the board with the in, out, power and ground wires all ready in, just before I turned it over and started installing the pots and switches on the board 3) My clever arrangement to have the Trim pot available to me even though the parts are down; I was going to install it on the back but actually soldering it in would have been difficult as there's nothing to solder to on the parts side.

thats awesome! I can't wait to build mine.. I am waiting on the fabbed boards.

Did the board not fit over the switches with the solder side down or is the a different reason you put the components side down? I want to put mine in the same enclosure 1590bb but I will probably put the switches on the top row so they don't get kicked, or maybe I should put them on the bottom so I can kick them.

It wasn't that it wouldn't fit, it's just that the way I do my wiring I need to have access to the underside so I can solder it in. I could have had it parts up, but then I would have had to make all the wires really long, and then it would have been a complete mess inside. Right now, the wires are still a little too long for my liking, but it helped out in the end...

where did you buy your chips? I looked at small bear and they are almost $10 each, I saw some people on ebay selling them for $4.99 for the pair, and small lots of 10 and 10 but I don't know if they will work.

I got them at smallbear. I know it's expensive, but if you consider shipping from a seperate supplier...

I put in a 600 dollar order for my last order at Smallbear. I definately get my money's worth when I make an order. It would have knocked some money off the order to get them somewhere else, but I like supporting Steve. He's given me exceptional service, and I really appreciate the company.

You always take a risk with Ebay. I'm contemplating some Germ trannies on ebay, and I'm not sure if I'll do it. I may as well go to smallbear or something like that because it's safer.

I got several sets off this fellow: http://shop.ebay.com/futchamusic/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

Never had an issue with them.

If there is enough interest, I can inquire about stocking these (from a different source). I might be able to offer them for even less.

I ended up buying some of ebay. I would say it would be cool if you could stock those though, people are going to need the chips and anything you can do to help bring the price down would be cool. I imagine the fabbed pork barrell boards will be pretty popular.

Excuse my poor english, I'll try to be understood  :)

Yes I've seen this list : for resistors, ICs and caps, it's easy but I don't know what to choose for switchs (SPST) and pots (100kB...) so I've asked here if someone could give me Small Bear references

Thank you again

It seems like smallbear doesn't have SPST toggles...you can use a SPDT: Http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=38

Just wire it like this:
     /
___/___
|_____|
|1_2_3|
|_|  |
   |  |
    |  |

The pots have letters A, B, C...A means Audio or Log. B means linear and C means reverse log. You can easily find those in SmallBear as well ;)

Hope this helps!

Pots

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=555
You want two 100k Linear

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=116
You want the 250k from this link its a C (reverse) it just doesn't show in the drop box.

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=1101
10k trim pot

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=20
3pdt for the main footswitch

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=38
3 of these, like it was said, he doesn't carry the spst

josh

PS: This should be in it's own thread not in Jacob's awesome build thread ;)

Just checked out the video you posted Jacob! Sounds really really good! Very transparent at certain settings with other settings being very outright shimmery chorus. +1 for including all the awesome mods available.  ;D
