Title: Kingslayer - completed
Post by: madbean on June 09, 2012, 05:10:59 PM
Finally got around to boxing this one up. I'm quite happy with it now. It's got two switches for clipping choices. One is for hard clipping and one for soft. The hard clipping selects between two red LEDs, none, and two BAT85. It sounds like a vintage / Marshall kind of choice. The soft clipping is BAT46 doubled up. This is similar to the vintage hard mode, but a little brighter. All around enough choices to make me happy. The LEDs are my favorite I think.

The actual circuit is basically the Klon, but the power section has been simplified so it runs on +/- 9v. The IC is an TLC274BCN. The LM347 also sounds good.

So, this one is done. I'll be looking to get some made pretty soon. Demo to follow.

Angel on right shoulder: "you don't need another dirt pedal"

Devil on left shoulder: "you know you must have this pedal"

Me: flicks away pesky gnat on right shoulder.

Wow! Really nice! Can't wait to hear it in action. The knobs remind me of the TGV : high speed train in France...

Looks awesome! I can hardly wait for one, although a clean look would be nice I'm tempted to do a Jaime Lannister (the Kingslayer) decal.

Madbean, any side by side comparison with Sunking or another Klon clone? I'm intersted to build a Klon clone and Sunking was my first choice until Kingslayer came out!

New member by the way, hello!  :)

Hello Brian,
My skills on pedal labelling are very poor.
That's the reason why I have not tried decals yet.

I'm looking for a way to label my builds without having to unbox them...  :o
And I really like the way your Kingslayer is labelled. Very sober !!!
Can you explain how you did the labels on knobs and back cover ?

THANK YOU  ;)

Very simple. I used white Stazon ink and a small set of rubber stamps bought at a hobby shop. I use it occasionally when I don't want to go through the hassle of labeling myself.

Is the KS able to do boosty/low gain stuff like a Klone? My only gripe with the Klone circuit is that there is a noticed increase in mids that I don't like when the Gain is turned up past basically off. Is this different in that regard?

Looks sick by the way Brian, nice work!

Any chance you will have the demos for this (and the Sparkplug) up soon? My boards show up today so I will be ordering the rest of the parts soon, but I would love to hear them first so I know what to expect.
