Title: stacking op amps and joining gain stages.
Post by: 9Lives on June 20, 2012, 02:45:39 PM
I'm still searchinh for the most practal way to make high gain distortions and really enjoying messing around with breadboards and veros. My question is for some really experienced people. When stacking op amp gain stages, how do you determine the gain for each stage and where to put the clipping diodes. The best result I've had was a tubescreamer type clipping section pushing jfet stages. This is somewhat noisey and I wish I could just use opamps. Is the idea to start with low gain and increase each stage? And what does one use to join each stage? Resistor, cap and bias?

I'm not smart enough to help you but here is a great article :

Lots of info on the tube screamer, how each stage work and how to increase the gain out of it!
You should also look at the wampler triple wreck schem on FSB, really high gain box with 3 opamps...

Just my 2 cents.
