Title: Afterlife IC orientation question (noob)

So I'm just getting into this so please excuse what might be a noob question.
Is IC installed correctly here, or should it turned the other way?
Because this one doesn't have the little notch on the end I'm unsure of which direction is correct.

You have it backwards. That little circle is pin 1 (the square pad)

They are super sensitive to heat and static electricity also.  I would recommend a grounding strap from Radio Shack and use sockets instead of soldering the chip directly to the board.  I think it is probably near impossible not to fry the chip desoldering one.
