This is a fantastic sounding trem built from CultureJam's board. Nearly does full chop. I've build a couple of other trems (BYOC and EA) but this is a totally different beast.

Looks amazing...as usual!
That's a sick looking build! :o
Josh
Yep..... thats a beauty mate :o
I LOVE the graphics.
I LOVE that box finish!
Is it blue anodized from PPP?
AND the graphics are fantastic! How were they applied?
I really like the heat shrink idea to tame the wires. I'll have to borrow that idea...
VERY Well done if I do say so myself! ;D

It is the sparkle blue from PPP. I like the finish quite a lot. The color is richer in person. It was overcast when I took the photos with my cell phone, so they don't really do it justice.
The graphics were laid out with Adobe Illustrator and etched in with a laser.
Thanks to everybody for the kind words.
Laser...
I had no idea that was even an option.
Googling that now....
wow. very very nice... great job!
NIce! Looks like faded blue jeans. Congrats.
That's just beautiful. The laser etching is really smart with the aluminum knobs.
Reminds me of the cover of The Little Prince. :) [Edit: The cover on my copy is blue.]
Sweet looking stuff man!!!
Super nice as usual 8)
What led color did you go with, for the LDR?
I'm still battling over orange and green..., orange giving me that stutter effect almost perfectly, just a tiny bit of leak..., and the green with a reverb maxxed out in front is just terrific for ambiant stuff....
Anyone ever tried a RGB led in these type of circuit...with a switch to change led color of the LDR?

Now that is a cool idea. With a micro controller, you could make it any color you want ....

Hey Rej,
I used a 5mm red diffused LED coupled to the opticoupler with a piece of PVC tubing which I then covered in shrink tubing. I covered the ends in black glue to block out any light through the back of the LED.
Sometime soon, I'll try the same config with different LEDs and measure the difference in resistance from the LDR with the LED turned on.

I have some of those LED coming in and also 5 color one with all their individual ground lead, with a 12 position rotary switch, it should be pretty easy to make some really nice combo.....
I may try that on my remaining STM pcb....

I did couple test with different LDR using the same LED for a steady reference, with LDR ranging from 200 to 550ohm, it does'nt really change alot the sound..., the led color have a really bigger impact.
One led i forgot to try is 5mm diffused blue.....who knows..., maybe that where it's at!
Clean guts. I like.

Does the LED color really have that great an effect on the sound, even given the wave knob? I'm asking because I've used a vactrol twice now and mainly I just got a difference in the extreme of the chop, which is a product of the on/off resistance.

I don't see how it could. The on/off resistance of the LDR would seem to be where it's at.
What I am planning on doing is seeing what the change is in the on/off resistance (if any) with different LEDs and the same LDR.
The difference i noticed is when i want the trem to be really choppy and deep.
With a red led i always had a leak in the background of the sound, not with the orange.
And for some particular setting, the green compared to the orange, made the trem have a different «sweep», it just sounded softer.......
I have to say that it's not all my led that have the same mcd rate, so maybe that makes more difference than the color itself.

That's interesting. Did you measure the resistance of the LDR with both the red and the orange LEDs?
Nope, but i could!
I'll try to get at it later today, got a bunch of things to do.....
That is so tidy inside. I'm can't figure out how you got all that wiring for the pots hidden under there, and the knobs are not in the order I expected!
