Title: Questions about CAPS
Post by: guile on November 10, 2012, 08:59:24 PM
Hi electromagicians!

I want to build these pedals but the partslist is not clear about what type of cap to use.
Could someone specify (film, ceramic, silver mica, elco or tantalum)?

It's better specified here, but still not specified per part:

Thanks!

You can follow the same guidelines as the serenity doc. But in general:
For "pf" values you can use ceramic caps or multilayer ceramic caps
for "n" values I generally use film caps
for "uf" values I use electrolytic or tantalum caps

Remember to order at least 25v voltage rating to be safe. Anything above is fine but the physical size of the cap gets larger.

Also, when ordering remember the conversions that people use when talking about cap values
1000pf = 0.001n
0.01 = 10n
0.1 = 100n

Happy Building!

C2 in the Glitterati is a 1uF film cap (which is pretty huge!). You could use electrolytic, bu then you'll have to watch the orientation!
