Title: SMD Component Recommendations
Post by: jonrhee on November 16, 2012, 03:43:08 AM
I don't think that has been discussed before but if it has i apologise. I'm looking into doing a few SMD projects and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations as far as what types of capacitors, resistors, etc to use? Does it really matter?

Thanks

Well, the answer is that it depends. For most pedal building, you will be fine with standard thick film resistors and ceramic caps.  Occasionally, the lower noise of thin film resistors justify their use, but they are MUCH more expensive.  Same goes for PPS caps.  For the pedals I've built, I've just used the standard stuff and it has been fine

Cool, that helps. Do you have any recommendation for a sub for a 1N4001 as a protection diode?
Comparable ones seem to be just as big at a 1N4001.
