Title: rangemaster changing trans - some results
Post by: gtangas on December 26, 2012, 03:09:42 AM
Hi guys

Merry Christmas to all

So I finish my rangemaster and it rocks!

Today visiting my father I found on is attic some transistors... ac127, a mullard OC76, ac188, 2n.... etc....
On my rangemaster and since I can't find an oc44 i have an ac128.. but now with this goodies....

Can I swap the trans without any problems?

Search for the data sheet on each. The polarity (NPN vs. PNP) has to be the same (otherwise you need to flip all your caps). AC127 and AC128 are different polarity for instance.

Ok so i have been swapping the trans and from a lot of 20 here are the ones that I most enjoyed :

AC128
AC188
AF106
2N4032
Sony 2SB136
Mullard OC7... I can't read the rest...

Big surprise was the af106 and the Sony 2sb136... They rock!! Same power as the AC128

The Mullard its Ok but smother than the others

A few of the trans just bypass the signal (calibration?) and others are different polarity or they are damage because there is no sound when the circuit is on
