this is one of the things I would buy just to see if (and how!) it works.... If I had too much money! They do look cool, but would be hugely out of place in a vintage amp  :D

Maybe we should merge threads.

AFAIK none of us took the plunge.  The price is prohibitive to me.

the ones on top look really cool
back in my pc building days, companies made really cool aluminum crap that was all show/no go

I remember the guys on the seymour duncan site were underwhelmed. 
But there is always hope.

I am not impressed! I bought 1 1961 dutch Mullard off eBay, and put it in V1 of my DrZ Maz18, and it completely transformed the sound of the amp! So over a period of time, i changed them all to old mullards (and one Brimar) all early 60s, inc a matched pair of EL84s.. and the difference is unreal! the amp sounds 100 times better than it did with modern valves!

The thought of solid state valves in there is nto a pleasing idea!! perhaps as spares in my bag at a push ;)

You can buy a spare set for the price of one of those though.
