Title: Substitution for LM78L05?
Post by: mulletmaster on January 18, 2013, 11:20:29 PM
I'm building a cave dweller and SB doesn't have any in stock, so, are there any trannies that can replace the LM78L05?

A LM7805 would work if it would fit, but if you're putting this in a 1590a it would probably be too bulky.
You could grab some off ebay from thaishine (http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-x-L78L05ACZ-L78L05-78L05-5-VOLTS-100mA-Voltage-Reg-/320797060214?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab0feac76) or ask if someone will send you one in the parts jar room (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0).

Tayda sells them.

It's a regulator, not a "normal" transistor. The only substitute is a different 5v regulator, and the only other 5v regulator I'm aware of is the one Haberdasher mentioned, which has a heat sink.

Awesome, thanks! And no, I'm not putting it in a 1590a.

The legs on LM7805 are going to be wider so I'm unsure if it would fit into the pcb.  It's quite a bit larger.
I'd probably play it safe & try to get the 78L05 somewhere.  It's worth buying a few extra since any future delays you build that use a PT2399 are going to call for one as well.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind. I found that Mammoth has them in stock, on a side note.
