Title: Ge Mangler with NOS parts
Post by: Loztboy on January 21, 2013, 10:35:08 PM
My father in law was going to clean out some old stuff he had at his office, so he asked me if I would take a look before they threw it all away.
NOS Phillips and Mullard stuff
Lots of transistors Ge Si, tropical fish and Phillips caps, resistors and allot more.
Here's a little preview.

I knew right away that I had to buid a Fuzz Face, Tonebender and Rangemaster

So here is my Mangler

WOW! You could become a emporium legend with that stash.

Nice build.

Too bad you don't have any extra transistors to experiment with  :D

Hahaha.

That is indeed a nice build.  Looks like you can build a few more like it.  :-)

Wowee that's a great stash.

I feel envious everytime I see one of these "I knew __________ who had a bunch of ___________ and was gonna just throw it away..." threads. I know nobody like that.

Wow, look at all the useful storage cabinets!

:D

Nice looking fuzz. I know it's a circuit that's been done to death, but I always like seeing a well-made Fuzz Face.

And yeah, you could probably destroy a few wallets on TGP with that stash.

Hehe thanks :)
I could not believe my eyes when I went to pick up the components, I thought i was dreaming.
The company was owned by Phillips back in the day.
There was also alot of micro processors, that I have no idea what to do with.
I might do a thread, listing all the parts some day, so I can get some help figuring it all out.
I bought a Peak Atlas so I can measure the transistors, great tool for a noob.

Wow, that is an unreal stash! And the pedal looks great too.  ;)

The place I work doesn't have a stash of quite those proportions (at least not for NOS or "mojo" stuff), but I have been having fun playing around with different GE transistors, mainly in the Keeley Fuzz Head circuit. A 2n1306 I brought home this weekend just happened to kill compared to the one I had in there before. There are also some 2n1305s I have my eye on for a PNP Fuzz Face. There are only about six of them, so wish me luck that some are usable!

Holy shit!

If you ever get around to testing the transistors and there's some good tonebender sets (OC75/81D/84 - 70-130hfe with no more than 200ua leakage) in there that you fancy selling, count me in for a set ;)  I was only ever able to make one, something that pisses Cleggy off no end.

Also have a dig and see if there any script 'f' logo (looks like an S) 2N5133 transistors. Gains of over 500hfe are the holy grail of muff transistors. Needless to say, if you have, I'll give you my liver or something in exchange ;)

What a totally rad score!  You are probably well aware of this, but If you ebay those components in small quantites you could pocket a good bunch of cash.  Really nice stuff, those OC75's are an amazing find, pairs of 220nf tropical fish caps usually go for $10 or so.  That stash is amazing really, I'd be tempted to sell none of it.

Don't listen to him, he's some sort of insane person.

Sell them, sell them to Juan...

 Yeah I heard!
If you want to off a set of tonebender trannys let me know. or Mangler trannys

That pedal looks awesome, good job!

LOL you guys, we are all a bunch of nerds :)

I have to do some sorting and measuring/testing, I will let you know if I will sell any.
There are probably many leaky low gainers.

That is one of the most ridiculous scores I have ever seen.  I would just throw it all on the floor and roll in it.

Uh... Dane, that just sounds uncomfortable. I don't like stepping on part leads, why would you roll in them?

Jeeze!!!  You struck GOLD!!  Did you check the other room in the office?  Your in-law may just as well have a couple of 59 Les pauls and 57 strats laying around :)

This! I don't know anybody who would have a bunch of this stuff somewhere, or a 57 strat in the attic.... Damn I should go out more!!  ;)
