Well, now that I've really taken an addictive hobby on making pedals for the last year now, I've decided to upgrade from my Weller WP35 35watt soldering iron for a soldering station with temp control. I need one that would also so shut off automatically when not in use for long period of time. I've accidentally left the soldering iron on, after building a pedal and to leave my work area to test it
I found this one...http://www.circuitspecialists.com/soldering-station-60-watt-3dlf.html
watcha think?
I don't see where it says that one shuts off automatically. If auto shut off is not a deal breaker, then I suggest this one:

I've used it over a year now with the same tip and have had no problems at all.

Lemme ask you, have you had to replace the ceramic element yet, and do you experience the heating cooling problem while you're building
I have the Hakko FX-888. It's small and has nothing fancy about it, but it is amazing at soldering. I don't know if it does auto shut off. It's got a little red LED that flashes and reminds me to shut it off. Check out the reviews here,

Nice, but already ordered the one I posted, and got a free DMM with the order :)

Still curious about the free ceramic element replacement that comes with it. How often does it need to be replaced? I am interested in this one also.
Sorry, are you referring to the solder station I just purchased or my old weller 35watt soldering iron? I don't know of any free ceramic eliment replacement.
The station posted days it has a ceramic element replacement it comes with.

Sorry dude, but I have no idea. I just scrolled up and noticed you were originally asking RobA the question, as you quoted him. LOL... I have no clue what free ceramic filament you speak of... sorry dude.
I have a weller wes51 and Im very satisfied , and it turns off automatically after 99 minutes of non use .
I think it was Chordball that posted the link to the station that has the free element. It does say it comes with one in the ad.
I'n going to push the Hakko at anyone who's interested again. It made soldering SMD parts so much easier. I highly recommend it, especially since SMD is coming to every part in the future. Its temperature control and heat reservers are far better than any other station or iron I've used.

Oops....my bad. Yes, it was Chordball. :)
