Title: DeadRinger
Post by: ichilton on January 31, 2013, 02:14:48 PM
Is the DeadRinger an exact clone of the Fulldrive 2?

i.e what does "based on mean"? :)

How close does it sound?

I assume it's based on the original FD2? - has anyone cloned the MOSFET version of the FD2? (or is it possible to mod the DeadRinger to clone the MOSFET one)?

Thanks,

Ian

If I'm not mistaken the deadringer is based on the mosfet version.
Hopefully someone who has owned an original can chime in, but I myself don't know how close it sounds.

Ahh, ok.

Is it possible to mod it to the non-mosfet one then?

(or is there any other clones of the non-mosfet one?)

Interested to hear from anyone who has compared them to the real thing....

Thanks,

Ian

I thought the MOSFET version just added 2n7000's as an additional clipping option - meaning you still get the same sound as the original if you leave the switch in vintage or comp-cut mode. If that's the case, why not build a MOSFET version and just not use that mode if you don't like it?
