what would AC187/188's be good for?
hfe up to 500

im bidding on some crazy stuff in germany, anybody go outside the box with clipping diodes?
he has all kinds of neat stuff, dont know if or how it would work

I guess you  are bidding on some tranistors from minifux . If so , I recommend his asx12d : cheap , low leakage , and in the right hfe range for fuzz pedals . I`ve heard they are replacement for nkt275 . 

I bought ac187 from Germany too and they were all leaky : over 1000 µa and really high gain . But it can be usefull for some overdrives . Sometimes I open my LaVache and I replace the 2n3565 by a high gain npn germanium transistor  like the ac187 , ac175 or ac 176 .

I just built a Big Muff using an AC187 in the 1st and 4th positions and BC550C's in the second and third. It sounds great.
